Zelenski visits forward positions near Bakhmut

Volodymyr Zelensky has visited the advanced positions of the Defence Forces in Donetsk Region and awarded defenders of Bakhmut.

I have the honour to be here today in the east of our state, in Donbas, and to award our heroes, to thank you, to shake hands. Thank you for protecting the State, the sovereignty, the east of Ukraine.

The Head of State listened to reports on the operational situation and the course of military actions in this area of the front, talked to military servicemen and thanked them for defending Ukraine.

Artillerist Captain Ilya Vergun, who was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine, received the Order of the Gold Star from the Head of State. He had been fighting since February 24, 2022, directly led anti-tank battalions during the liberation of Trostyanets, Sumy region. He also took part in the containment of the enemy in the Izyum direction.
