Between 24 February 2022 and 10 January 2023, at least 611 people were affected by mines in Ukraine. And between 2014 and 2020, 1,190 such incidents were recorded.

Two men have been blown up by mines planted by Russians in Beryslavskyy district of Kherson region. They both had to be hospitalized, the Kherson regional police have said.

It is reported that one of the victims was a 26-year-old resident of Milovsky community of Beryslav region. He has fractures and mine blast injuries. According to medics, the man stepped on a mine.

Another resident of Beryslav region was injured when he stepped on an explosive object while gathering firewood. He was also taken to hospital.

Currently, law enforcers are investigating into the circumstances of the incident.

Law enforcers also appealed to Ukrainians and reminded that the de-occupied areas are still dangerous. Primarily because of the mine danger, as retreating, the enemy deliberately mined large areas of territory.

The police reminded that there is still a ban on visiting forests, forest belts, fields and other areas of the de-occupied territories where potentially explosive objects, unexploded shells and mines can be found," the police added.

According to them, it is also forbidden:

  • approach broken down enemy equipment;
  • enter abandoned buildings and houses;
  • pulling over to the roadside;
  • pick up suspicious objects from the ground.

It should be noted that around 40 per cent of our country's territory is contaminated with mines. Ukraine has anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, booby traps, cluster munitions and unexploded ordnance.
