Bulgaria and Azerbaijan agreed to go through the winter together without Russia

Countries intend to reduce or eliminate Russian influence on their energy sector.
Bulgaria and Azerbaijan will begin to exchange gas and electricity. In particular, Sofia will export electricity to the Caucasus and receive gas. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Industry of Bulgaria Nikola Stoyanov, BNT writes.
Azerbaijan produces electricity from gas, and we are a major electricity producer, we export it, we have overproduction. We will be able to provide them with electricity, and they will give us gas,” Stoyanov said.
According to him, during the talks in Baku, the parties also discussed the launch of the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector and the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor. The Minister also stated that Bulgaria intends to increase gas supplies from Azerbaijan to 2 billion cubic meters per year.
In August, Bulgaria announced that it did not intend to buy gas from Russia. This happened after the Kremlin set a condition - to pay for fuel in rubles. Before the cessation of supplies in the spring of 2022, Bulgaria covered more than 90% of its needs with Russian gas.
