More than 2.5 thousand Ukrainian fighters from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol are in captivity of the invaders.

On June 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

The GUR deals with the issue (of the exchange of prisoners). A special united body was created on its basis. The prisoners are, unfortunately, in the hands of the Russian Federation... We know what to negotiate with the Russians, we know the price. We know that they cannot be trusted… The GUR should deal with this issue and should give a result. The only result is to return people home,” the President said.

According to him, there are more than 2,500 Ukrainian defenders from Azovstal in Russia. At the same time, the first task assigned to the Main Intelligence Directorate was to bring Ukrainian prisoners of war out alive, and it was completed in full.

The first part was to take people out alive. I believe that the GUR completed the first part. Today there is the second part: to return them home alive ... They are the best specialists in this regard ... I personally trust them. We expect results from them. But we cannot ask them every day: “Well, what is there? ... All this is not easy. Let us believe that they will succeed in their task,” the president said.
