Ukraine believes such engagement with the US could help persuade Washington to hand over long-range weapons to Ukraine.

This was reported by the Washington Post citing Ukrainian and US sources.

According to US journalists, the Ukrainian military hardly ever fires HIMARS and other high-precision weapons at Russian military facilities without coordinates from the US military. Those are in Europe.

The Ukrainian side believes that such interaction with the US could help persuade Washington to hand over long-range precision weapons to Ukraine.

The U.S. military says that providing coordinates ensures the accuracy of weapon use and helps save ammunition.

U.S. experts believe Ukraine could conduct strikes without U.S. assistance, but because Kiev does not want to waste valuable ammunition, it usually chooses not to conduct strikes without confirmation from the Americans, adding that there are no complaints about the process.
