The co-operation agreement between Ukraine and Poland includes the creation of the Ukrainian Legion of Ukrainian refugees in the EU.

Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov has called on all Ukrainians who are in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion. This was reported by Rustem Umerov on 9 July.

We call on all Ukrainians who are in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion. Your contribution is invaluable in our struggle for freedom and independence. Each of your steps brings us closer to victory! - urged Umerov.

He noted that the cooperation agreement between Ukraine and Poland, signed on 9 July, is a new important step in strengthening the defence capabilities of both neighbouring states.

One of the key provisions of this agreement is the creation of the Ukrainian Legion, a special volunteer unit that will train in Poland to defend Ukraine.

Umerov explained why this is important:

  • Increased combat readiness: our volunteers will receive state-of-the-art training from allies from Poland, Lithuania and other EU countries.
  • International support and equipment: the legion will be equipped with the best equipment from our international partners, increasing its effectiveness on the battlefield.
  • Opportunity for Ukrainian citizens in Europe: Ukrainians who are in Poland and other EU countries will be able to voluntarily join the defence of Ukraine by signing a contract with the AFU.
  • This initiative demonstrates the unwavering support and solidarity from our European partners, as well as the willingness to stand side by side with Ukraine.

Earlier Socialportal reported that in Poland Vladimir Zelensky and Donald Tusk signed an agreement on security. In particular, it envisages the formation of a volunteer military unit of Ukrainian refugees.
