It became known how many Ukrainians were mobilised in 2024

The Ukrainian authorities planned to mobilise considerably more people.
In 2024, Ukraine managed to mobilise about 200,000 recruits to the army. However, the authorities expected 500,000 people, so the Ukrainian army is still short of manpower. This was reported by the Washington Post, citing calculations by unnamed Ukrainian and Western officials.
As unnamed servicemen explained to journalists, Ukraine started the draft too late, when the units were already "seriously understaffed after months of fighting without replacements."
The sources also pointed out that there were more desertions among the Ukrainian military. They explain the problem of fleeing from the front line by the fact that many military men who have joined the army recently did not come voluntarily, but were forced to go to war.
Another problem the sources believe is the misallocation of forces. According to them, more people were put on the defensive than on the offensive, which, in the opinion of the publication's interlocutors, was wrong.
The publication also points out that the AFU ranks have become increasingly exhausted and unable to repel Russian pressure, and the military is allegedly increasingly supporting newly elected US President Trump's call to start negotiations with Russia to end the war.
