US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reacted to the "death sentence" for foreign military personnel by urging Russia to respect international humanitarian law.

We are seriously concerned about reports of a bogus "trial" and its decisions against lawful combatants serving in the Ukrainian armed forces. We call on Russia and its proxies to respect international humanitarian law, including the rights and protection afforded to prisoners of war, the US Secretary of State tweeted .

Recall that the Britons Aiden Aslin and Sean Pinner and the Moroccan Saadun Brahim were recognized as "foreign mercenaries who fought on the side of Ukraine" and were sentenced to death by firing squad. The verdict can be appealed within a month.

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss condemned the death sentence handed down by the "supreme court of the DPR". According to her, in London they continue to be considered prisoners of war.

At the same time, the representative of the British Prime Minister said that the UK will continue to work with the Ukrainian authorities to release two citizens of the United Kingdom.

The head of the British Ministry of Justice Dominic Raaba also commented on the situation : We guarantee that we will file all complaints.

After that, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that the appeal by the British authorities of the verdict to Aslin and Pinner would actually mean recognition by London of the self-proclaimed DPR.

This is what the front pages of British newspapers looked like today.

As reported, Pinner and Aslin surrendered in Mariupol in mid-April. They have served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2018. Saadoun surrendered in March in Volnovakha. The Moroccan has lived in Ukraine since 2019 and entered the military last year.
