Advisor to the mayor of the city, Petr Andryushchenko, said that the occupiers quarantined Mariupol to prevent the spread of infection.

Advisor to the Mayor of Mariupol, Petr Andryushchenko, on the air of the FreeDOM marathon, explained why the city is at high risk of a cholera epidemic.

He also emphasized that almost all water sources in the village were poisoned.

We are watching the city shut down. In addition, information has begun to come in that the Russian side in Rostov-on-Don has prepared separate infectious disease wards where they are preparing to receive their own soldiers who may get into the hospital as a result of the epidemic. And the word 'cholera' is heard within the city, among the occupation authorities and their handlers, - he said.

Occupation authorities of Mariupol banned swimming in the Sea of Azov

Formally - because of mine clearance. Really - because of the explosive growth in the incidence of intestinal infections and the threat of a cholera epidemic, informs the Mariupol City Council.

According to the Mariupol City Council, as of early June

A number of factors in Mariupol could lead to an explosive cholera epidemic:

  • centralized water supply and sewerage do not work.
  • garbage removal and disposal does not work: the city is literally drowning in garbage and sewage.
  • spontaneous burials are located in almost every courtyard.
  • the summer heat accelerated the decomposition of thousands of corpses under the rubble.
  • lack of adequate medical support: there are no medicines, medical facilities have been destroyed, the most valuable equipment has been taken away, the best doctors have left.
  • - the sea and reservoirs are constantly polluted with garbage, sewage and cadaveric poisons.

Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Igor Kuzin explained that the situation with the spread of infectious diseases in Mariupol has become critical due to mass graves of people and lack of access to drinking water.

Quite often we receive information about burials in unauthorized places, this can lead to water pollution, so it is very important for people living in such territories to pay attention to the use of water from wells and water pipes, it must be subjected to heat treatment,” he recalled.

From June 1, the Ministry of Health began increased surveillance of all cases in Ukraine that could be similar to cholera, Kuzin said.
