Russia destroys more than 1,000 medical facilities in Ukraine - the highest number in the world

This was stated in a press release by the World Health Organization.

According to the report, Russia has carried out more than 1,000 attacks on medical facilities in Ukraine since the start of full-scale war.

This grim milestone further underscores the complex and dangerous circumstances in which Ukraine's healthcare system operates and the challenges of providing both routine and emergency medical services. Attacks impede access to medical care for tens of thousands of people, increasing the risk of illness and death.

This is the highest number the WHO has ever recorded.

In 15 months, Russia's attacks on hospitals have killed 101 people, including medical workers and patients. Many more have been injured.

The WHO also notes the psychological impact on patients who fear seeking medical care and on health workers who cannot provide care in a safe and secure environment. This is also significant and will affect public health for a long time.

Since 24 February last year, WHO has supported nearly 9 million people across the country. Together with the United Nations and other partners, we are stepping up efforts to gain access to more territories, including the de-occupied parts of Ukraine, where health needs are among the most acute.
