The remaining Russian equipment, lots of ammunition, cats and a group of Ukrainian military are now on the island.

CNN reports on this in a report from the island, which has been liberated from occupation.

on 7 July, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the battles for Snake Island with Russia were over with Ukrainian victory. The Ukrainian military planted a blue-and-yellow flag there. Since then, nothing has been heard about what is happening on the island

Now the foreign media have arrived on the island to show what the situation there is now.

Serpentine is strewn with wreckage, it is a graveyard of expensive equipment and unexploded ordnance, journalists tell us. There are, for example, Russian Pantsir SAMs, a nearly undamaged (but disabled by the Russians) Tor SAM, the remains of a downed helicopter and several kinds of mines on it.

But there are positives. About a dozen cats live on the island. There is also some Ukrainian military on Serpentine: they have an observation mission.

The control of Serpentine allows control over the mouth of the Danube. Without the protection of the island the signing of the grain deal would have been impossible," says a Ukrainian military officer
