A conveyor belt chewed up a woman's leg at an airport in Thailand. Medics performed an amputation on the spot

A tragic incident at Bangkok International Airport resulted in the partial amputation of a woman's leg after she got stuck in a moving pedestrian crossing.
This was reported by NBC news.
supanny Kittirattana, 57, was on her way to the southern city of Nakhon Si Thammarat when her left foot got stuck in a gangway around 8:27 a.m. Thursday, said Karant Thanakuljirapat, director of Don Mueang International Airport.
Her leg was caught in a moving pedestrian crossing in Terminal 2. Frightened bystanders were quickly trying to press an emergency switch when her leg twisted horribly.

The images show that the woman's leg was stuck under a conveyor belt at the end of the terminal's walkway. Medics had to amputate her leg above the knee to retrieve it.
The airport authority has given assurances that it will cover the medical costs and has also said that the woman could receive substantial compensation.
The Associated Press reported that the woman's leg was currently being attempted to be reattached, and she had been moved from one hospital to another for necessary treatment.
Karant expressed deep regret over the serious accident, confirming that an investigation into its causes was underway.
We want to assure all passengers using Don Mueang Airport that we will thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen our measures to ensure safe and efficient service," he told a press conference.
He also noted that the walkway had been in operation since 1996 and was undergoing regular maintenance.
The state-owned Airports of Thailand Corporation, which manages airports across the country, said in a statement that it had temporarily suspended all moving walkways at Don Mueang.
It also ordered inspections of walkways and escalators at all airports.
Krit Kittirattana, son of the victim, expressed his family's concern about his mother's mental health and her long-term adjustment.
In a Facebook post, he said: This crisis is very difficult for our family. We are still shocked and saddened every time we see the news or think about our mother's condition, but we have to fight because our mother is struggling.
