Ministry of Justice tells Ukraine how much it costs to keep Russian POWs

Detention in pre-trial detention facilities costs about the same amount, the agency noted.
Ukraine spends about 10,000 hryvnyas per month to keep one Russian prisoner of war, Deputy Justice Minister Olena Vysotska told Ukrinform.
She said that this is the total amount, including supplies to the camps, taxes, salaries and other expenses.
There are expenses for clothes, medical support, food, utilities, and also for arrangement of the place of detention, personnel, security. So if we talk about a more or less normally calculated cost of keeping a prisoner in the camp at the end of 2022, taking into account the camp supply, with taxes, salaries, utility costs - this amount is about 10 thousand UAH per prisoner per month," Vysotskaya said.
She also added that maintenance of prisoners in domestic pre-trial detention facilities, according to 2021 estimates, cost 130,000 hryvnyas per year, or 11,000 hryvnyas per month, which is very close to the amount of maintenance of prisoners of war.

It is known that POWs in the camps do paid work. They can spend the money received for it in local shops or on international negotiations. They also cook their own food. There is a recreation room in the camps, where they can watch TV or even read books in Ukrainian.
