Iran finally confirmed drone deliveries to Russia
For a long time, Iranian and Russian authorities denied that Iranian drones were used by the Russian military in the course of military operations in Ukraine.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Saturday, Nov. 5, that Tehran did indeed transfer a "limited number" of drones to Russia, but that was before the start of the war in Ukraine. The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed that "Iran will respond properly if it is confirmed that Moscow is using these drones in Ukraine," Fars reports. Specifically, Abdollahian said:
We provided Russia with a small number of drones a few months before the war in Ukraine
WP wrote about deliveries of Iranian drones to Russia in August of this year. According to the publication, on August 19, Russian cargo planes took away the first batch of drones that are capable of carrying ammunition for attacks. At the time, the Kremlin called the newspaper's report "stuffing".
The issue of Iranian drone shipments came up again in October, when the EU said it would investigate the matter. Already on October 20, the union announced that the Iranian company Shahed Aviation Industries, which produces drones, was included in the sanctions list for supporting the war.
