The Dutch government will set up an international organisation in The Hague - the Register of Losses Caused to Ukraine by Russian Aggression.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Justice Ministry's press service.

The register should become the first component of a comprehensive reparations mechanism, which is designed to ensure that the aggressor state pays Ukraine full reparations for the damage caused, in line with international law," the ministry explained.

This register will contain information about damage caused by Russia to Ukrainians, businesses and the state.

We welcome the principled decision of the Dutch government to host the Register of Losses. The destruction and damage caused by Russia to our citizens, businesses and the state are huge. The aggressor country is obliged under international law to compensate them. For this purpose, the damage must be carefully documented, assessed and prepared for further consideration," Minister Denys Maliuska said.

According to him, the city of The Hague is undoubtedly the capital of international justice, and it is fitting that the Register of Damages, as the first component of the reparation mechanism proposed by Ukraine, will be located there.

We thank the Netherlands for its principled position and leadership on the track of Russia's responsibility for the aggression against Ukraine and call on all our partners to join the work to establish a reparation mechanism," he added.

For her part, Deputy Justice Minister Iryna Wise said that the creation of the Register is a fundamental step for the future of the Compensation Mechanism.

Now it is important that all the processes are launched and the future fund is filled with resources - confiscated assets of the aggressor country. We believe that partners will be active in the issue of the Compensation Mechanism, because its need has already been supported by the UN, PACE and other international organizations," she said.

As you know, the creation of the Register of Losses was recommended by the UN General Assembly Resolution of 14 November 2022.
