The Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the missile was made in Russia.

This was reported by AP News citing its own sources.

Three US officials said on condition of anonymity that preliminary estimates suggest the missile was fired by Ukrainian forces at an approaching Russian missile.

US President Joe Biden said the same yesterday: it is unlikely that the missile was fired from Russia.

A Polish Foreign Ministry statement said the missile was made in Russia. President Andrzej Duda was more cautious in his statements, saying it was "likely" the missile was made in Russia, but details are still being verified.

In their statements, Poland and NATO used language suggesting that they did not view the missile blast as a deliberate Russian attack, at least for the time being. NATO's statement called it a "tragic incident".

Russia itself has also denied involvement of its missile in the incident.

It is worth recalling that Russia fired about 100 rockets into Ukraine yesterday, aiming to smash Ukrainian infrastructure. They mostly hit energy facilities. Nevertheless, the shells hit residential buildings. At least one fatality is known. Also, one of the rockets fell on Polish territory, close to the Ukrainian border. The shell exploded on a farm. Two Poles were killed as a result.
