Writer, radio host and volunteer Serhiy Zhadan was named Man of the Year by the Polish edition of Gazeta Wyborcza. This was reported on the publication's website.

When we discussed the laureate or laureate, it was clear that we should honor someone from Ukraine, a person who participates in the struggle. The list of merits is very long, it is opened by President Volodymyr Zelensky, it includes Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk, the mayors of Kyiv, Mariupol, Nikolaev and Kharkov, there are Ukrainian commanders and diplomats, soldiers and rescuers. Ukraine has become a land of heroes.

In the end, they chose Zhadan, who remains in Kharkov, located near the Russian border, writing articles about the war for Western newspapers, giving interviews, organizing concerts and doing humanitarian aid.

Zhadan commented on the honorary award on his Facebook page. According to him, he is happy to live next to the Ukrainians.

Thanks to the Electoral Newspaper for the title of person of the year. Although I perfectly understand the conventions of this definition - now all Ukrainians who are fighting for their country, working for it, are People of the Year, people with a capital letter. And many thanks to the Polish people for their support and help. Together we will defeat the evil empire. Thank you all, I love you all. Glory to Ukraine!, he wrote .

Also, Ukrainian writer, public figure and volunteer Serhiy Zhadan received the Freedom Prize from the Frank Schirrmacher Foundation.
