Biden may announce deliveries of Abrams tanks to Ukraine today

Reportedly, if Biden announces the transfer of M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, this will automatically unblock deliveries of German Leopard 2 tanks.

It is still unknown exactly how many tanks the USA will transfer to Ukraine. Anadolu news agency, citing a US administration official, said that it could be a battalion of Abrams tanks, which amounts to 30-50 combat vehicles.

Furthermore, the media reported that the tanks would not be transferred from the US reserves, but contracted, i.e. purchased from manufacturers under long-term contracts.

Thus, Abrams should not be expected any time soon. After all, deliveries may take months or even years. The step of handing over the American tanks is a symbolic gesture, which should push Germany to hand over its Leopard 2s.
