Russian invaders are trying to appropriate Ukrainian culture and artists. The occupiers have taken out three canvases by the outstanding artist Ivan Aivazovskyy.

This is what the Kherson Art Museum's website says.

One of the world's most prominent marine painters became an obsessive target for Russians, who measured the value of other artists' works "according to Aivazovsky" and stole his paintings from museums in occupied cities. This fate did not bypass the Kherson Art Museum, from where the occupants illegally removed three canvases of the outstanding master," the report said.

Ivan Aivazovsky (Hovhannes Ayvazyan at birth) was born in Feodosia, where he spent most of his life and became a great benefactor of the city. It is therefore not surprising that most of his paintings are associated with Ukraine. The artist painted seascapes, the Dnieper, steppes, Ukrainian houses, chumaks and much more.

However, Russians are still trying to appropriate the legacy of the outstanding artist, because he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, crossing out all the "non-canonical" facts from Aivazovsky's life.
