Russia begins using convicts to produce weapons - British intelligence

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence Intelligence in its report.

British security officials believe that the Russian defence industry is highly likely to employ prison labour in an attempt to meet the needs of wartime production.

For example, it is noted that as early as November 2022, Uralvagonzavod informed the local media after a meeting with the Federal Penitentiary Service that it would employ 250 Russian prisoners.

According to the latest figures, there are about 400,000 prisoners in Russia.

The prisoners represent a unique human resource that Russian leaders can use to support the war, while willing volunteers remain scarce.

Due to the shortage of ammunition, Russian defence companies are working overtime to produce new means of killing Ukrainians.
