Donald Trump has repeatedly said during the election campaign that he would end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that Russia's war against Ukraine may become more aggressive with the election of Donald Trump to the USA. He wrote about this in his column for the Economist.

The diplomat pointed out that in the period 2016-2022, a number of Western politicians have constantly raised the topic of concessions that Ukraine would allegedly have to make in order to stop the bloodshed on its own soil. Kuleba believes that with the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House, the same Western leaders may revisit the issue and insist on early concessions to the Kremlin that Kiev supposedly must make to end the war.

Speaking about Trump's stance on the war, Kuleba indicated that he will try to look "strong" and will do everything possible to end the war, as prolonging it will again hurt his reputation as a politician, and he "needs to look better than Biden."

Trump may believe that the current strategy won't stop Russia's advance, so it must change. Fair enough. But he should realise that the strategy is failing not because it is fundamentally false, but because it has never been fully implemented. Half measures and half decisions led to half results," the Ukrainian diplomat said.

At the same time, Kuleba noted that the war will end not when Ukraine restores its borders within the 1991 borders, but when Putin recognises Ukraine's right to exist as an independent and democratic Western state.
