Russian Federation-born member of Trump team offers himself as special envoy on Ukraine war

One of the advisers to the newly elected US President Donald Trump, 42-year-old Boris Epstein, who is a native of Russia, has nominated his candidacy for the post of special envoy for the settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war. About this writes the New York Times.

It is indicated that such a nomination caused surprise in the Trump team. The newly elected President himself did not support such a nomination, but did not immediately refuse this option.

At the same time, journalists of the publication write that Epstein's influence on Trump is growing and he has already received a number of privileges and powers, which discourages the Trump team. Moreover, Epstein's growing authority has allegedly been responded to by Ilon Musk, who himself is trying to make his influence on Trump "limitless."

Who Boris Epstein is

Born in Russia, he spent his childhood there in Moscow. He left the Russian Federation at the age of 11. Allegedly has relatives in both Ukraine and Russia.

In the US, he graduated from Georgetown University, got a law degree and almost immediately went into party politics.

After John McCain lost to Barack Obama, Epstein went into business and was involved in, among other things, raising investments in Russia. In 2013, the brokerage firm West America Securities Corporation, which he headed, was stripped of its licence and expelled from the financial market.

In 2016, Epstein began working for Trump's election campaign - and has remained his closest advisor ever since. In particular, Epstein has been involved in Trump's criminal defence, notably in the case of the payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Epstein has twice been prosecuted for bar and nightclub brawls, and he pushed for the appointment of Matt Gaetz, accused of corruption and anti-Semitism, as attorney general.
