Bundestag holds Merkel responsible for war in Ukraine
The decisions eventually led to a full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.
Marie-Agnes Struck-Zimmermann, chairman of the Bundestag Defence Committee, said this in an interview with the German TV channels RTL and n-tv.
Struck-Zimmermann criticised the decisions made by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which, in her opinion, made a full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine possible.
After all, in 2008 many countries supported Ukraine's accession to NATO. However, Germany and France opposed it because Russia did not want it.
The politician also expressed about the prospects of war in Ukraine. In her opinion, this war will not last as long as World War I or World War II. At the same time, Putin did not count on a broad and sustained support for Ukraine.
It is worth recalling that at the 2008 NATO Bucharest summit, Germany and France did not allow Ukraine and Georgia to receive a membership action plan.
