Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a secret meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. it took place in Caracas. The politicians discussed the war in Ukraine and possible supplies of weapons by Venezuela to Russia. About it writes the British newspaper The Sunday Times, citing sources.
Johnson discussed with Maduro the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as information about possible supplies by Venezuela of weapons and military equipment of the Russian Federation, - reports the edition.
According to journalists, Johnson arrived in Caracas by private plane from the Dominican Republic, where he was on holiday with his family. He stayed in Venezuela for less than a day.
Venezuela is believed to be an ally of Russia. In 2006, Moscow gave Caracas a loan of more than $17 billion. Venezuela spent a significant part of this amount on the purchase of Russian weapons. In turn, Russia gained access to Venezuela's oil fields.
Earlier, Alexei Zhuravlev, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma committee on defence, called for nuclear weapons to be deployed in Venezuela and "aimed at the United States".
