Slovakia's share in Ukraine's electricity imports is 19 per cent.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo's threats will not stop electricity imports to Ukraine. However, his position will harm Slovakia itself. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in X (Twitter).

It seems that Putin has instructed Fitzo to open a second energy front against Ukraine at the expense of the interests of the people of Slovakia. This is the only thing Fitzo's threats to cut off Ukraine's electricity supplies in winter in the face of Russian strikes on our power plants and distribution network can mean," he said

He stressed that Ukraine's need for electricity imports arose due to Russia's occupation of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the destruction by the Russian army of a significant part of Ukraine's thermal and hydro electricity generation.

At the same time, Zelensky pointed out that "Fitzo's short-sighted policy has already left the people of Slovakia without compensation for the loss of Russian gas transit," and now it may leave the people of Slovakia without at least $200 million annually, which Ukraine pays for imported electricity.

Yes, importing electricity for the bailout is not free, and it is a significant expense. Third, it will be more beneficial for everyone in Europe and in particular for the people of Slovakia from all points of view to cooperate with neighbours and the EU for the sake of increasing energy supplies to Europe, in particular gas from America and other partners, and this alone can reduce the price of energy for most families," Zelensky wrote.

Any arbitrary decisions in Bratislava or orders from Moscow for Fitzo on electricity will not lead to a halt in electricity imports to Ukraine, but can definitely lead to a break of the current Slovak government with the European community," the head of state added.

We would like to point out that Ukraine has stopped the transit of Russian gas to Europe since 1 January. In response, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo threatened to stop supplying electricity to Ukraine.
