Kyiv chestnuts on Khreshchatyk want to be replaced by other trees

The initiative was voiced by the founder of "Dobropark" Igor Dobrutsky.

15 years ago on the boulevard part of Khreshchatyk chestnut trees "Briotti" were planted. Igor Dobrutsky wrote about this on Facebook.

Fifteen years ago, I was planting Briotti chestnuts in the boulevard of Khreshchatyk. There, the root part of the trees developed in more or less good conditions: enough land, little negative external influence. Despite the fact that all the trees "survived", only one of them continues to grow without disease and looks good. Together with the chestnut, the yew berry also looks good, which was also planted “experimentally” in the same boulevard part, Dobrutsky wrote.

Igor Dobrutsky believes that this happened due to improper care of the plants by public utilities, because they require a special irrigation system

Understanding the nature of the plant, I was sure that when the tree was protected from harmful influences as much as possible, it would grow and develop. To do this, together with Zelenbud in 2018, I initiated the planting of 10 experimental trees, placing them in special containers that protected the roots from exposure to salt and other reagents in winter. Also, a drip irrigation system was built into each container, which would help the plant survive rather high temperature conditions in summer (sometimes up to +50C). But to be honest, I doubt that the public service workers filled the tanks with water. Most likely, at a certain moment they began to habitually water the trees around the trunk, Dobrutsky said.

Igor Dobrutsky said that elm has proven itself better in 4 years.

Dobrutsky said that the elm tree develops well in the difficult temperature conditions of the central street, a rather shady and beautiful-looking tree.

That is, the answer "What to land on Khreshchatyk?" Yes, but it is not yet clear whether Zelenbudu employees see this answer. I hope that in the end the experiments will be completed and logical, rational and decisive actions will come from those responsible for landscaping the central street,” Dobrutsky summed up.
