Ukrainian language to appear in Irish schools

Ukrainian pupils in Ireland who are moving up to fifth grade will be able to choose Ukrainian as an optional subject from September 2023.
This was reported on the website of the Association of Ukrainians in Ireland.
The reason for studying the new subject was the large number of Ukrainian refugees on the territory of Ireland. Now there are 15 thousand Ukrainian children registered in the country and 5,200 of them study in secondary schools.
In addition, about 100 Ukrainian primary school teachers were admitted to the register of the Pedagogical Council last year.
Irish Education Minister Norma Foley said that the Irish school is a place where Ukrainians can escape worries, concentrate on their own learning and make new friends.
It has been noted that the State Examinations Commission in Ireland has been busy fulfilling requests to allow EU foreigners to take examinations in their native language in educational institutions. Ukraine is not a member of the EU, but the commission has launched such an application.
