The new minister will be tasked with reforming the army.
This was reported by German public broadcaster ARD, the publication Spiegel and journalist Bild.
According to the German media, Boris Pistorius, the head of the Interior of Lower Saxony, will be the new German defense minister.
Pistorius is considered an expert on internal security in Germany, but has rarely spoken on defense issues. Moreover, the new defense minister is also a party associate of Scholz.
Pistorius is likely to be tasked with reforming the army first and foremost. He has previously spearheaded police reform.
It is worth recalling that the previous German defence minister, Christine Lambrecht, resigned on 16 January. The chancellor approved her resignation.
