Czech Republic extends temporary protection for Ukrainians for another year

According to journalists, the Czech Senate has approved an amendment to the law on Ukrainian refugees to extend the temporary protection regime. The law will be valid until the end of March 2024. It still needs to be signed by the president.

Now Ukrainians who want to extend their temporary protection in the Czech Republic will have to register electronically until the end of March 2023. After registration, they will have an appointment for a personal visit to the Interior Ministry, where they will receive a so-called visa sticker. If a refugee fails to do so, temporary protection will expire.

There have been changes to the rules for enrolling Ukrainian children in pre-school education and compulsory schooling for the next school year.

According to the Czech Interior Ministry, there are now 300,000 Ukrainian refugees in the country. Their number is not growing because Ukraine is experiencing a mild winter and Ukrainian forces are advancing.
