Ukrenergo: The power grid will withstand the massive switching on of heaters in winter

Should we expect problems with electricity in the winter in today's realities?
Due to the energy crisis and reduced consumption of Russian gas, people are expected to use electric heaters more next winter. And this will create an additional load on the electric power of Ukraine. Despite this, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, believes that the power grid will cope with the load in winter.
It must be understood that our consumption has significantly decreased, which means that the network load has also reduced. This will mean that additional electric heaters will more easily fit into the bandwidth of these networks. This is the first. Secondly, last year we had a relatively warm winter in terms of temperature regimes, but at the same time, electricity consumption was significantly higher than in previous years. Due to the high price of natural gas, most consumers who could do this "sat down on the socket,"; switching from gas heating to electric heating, where possible and appropriate. The production and consumption of electricity in Ukraine have increased. That is, we have already gone through a specific stress scenario for our energy system - in terms of the fact that everyone uses electric heaters - more than once, and not in one season. Therefore, I do not predict any systemic problems with the use of electric heaters will somehow affect the stability of networks. We expect the networks to cope,” Kudritsky explained.
Kudritsky stressed that all power plants undergo or have already undergone appropriate training.
