The White House head underwent surgery last month.

US President Joe Biden has undergone surgery to remove a skin cancerous tumour from his chest, according to a statement released by his doctor Kevin O'Connor on the White House website.

He also said that he has examined the patient and is satisfied with the results of the operation.

The biopsy site has healed and no further treatment is required," O'Connor said.

He said a biopsy on US president Joe Biden confirmed that the skin lesion removed from his chest was a basalioma - a common form of skin cancer.

All the cancerous tissue was successfully removed," he said.

He also added that Biden will continue dermatological follow-up as part of his ongoing treatment.

O'Connor stressed that basaliomas do not tend to spread or metastasise.

Note, basalioma (basal cell skin cancer) is a malignant neoplasm that occurs when cells of the epidermal layer of the skin are transformed. The pathological process develops in the actively dividing cells of the basal layer of the epidermis, hence the name of this type of cancer. One of the main risk factors is negative exposure to direct sunlight. If treated before the neoplasm reaches this size and the subcutaneous tissue becomes involved in the malignancy, 94-98% of patients are cured.
