Rubio commented on Russia's threats to the Baltic States, expressing concern

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Russia's threats against the Baltic states are a serious concern for Washington. He warned of the risk of further escalation and increased tension in the region.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Russia's threats and accusations against the Baltic states are of serious concern to Washington because of the risk of further aggravation of the situation. The US, he said, is closely monitoring the developments and coordinating actions with NATO allies, The Guardian reported.
Rubio told reporters during a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden.
Commenting on Moscow's statements about the alleged possible use of the Baltic territory for drone attacks on Russia, Rubio said that such rhetoric is alarming.
There are always concerns about escalation," he emphasised, adding that the Baltic States objectively feel threatened by Russia.
The US Secretary of State also warned that further deterioration of the situation could lead to consequences of a much more serious scale.
We are following the developments. But the basic answer is that we are concerned about it because we don't want it to lead to a larger conflict," Rubio said.
Tensions around the Baltic states have escalated in recent days amid statements by Russian representatives, including accusations of allegedly preparing attacks from Latvia and neighbouring countries. The EU and Ukraine have already denied the allegations, calling them disinformation.
Experts from the Institute for the Study of War noted earlier that such rhetoric could be part of information preparations for a possible further escalation in the region.
