Trump said the Russian president "wants people to stop dying" in Ukraine.
Trump said that he had talked to Putin about the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he said that the latter "does not care" about the killings on the battlefield, "he wants people to stop dying". This was reported in an interview with the New York Post by the American leader.
At the same time, Trump once again emphasised that a full-scale war "would never have started" if he had been elected president in 2022.
I have always had a good relationship with Putin," the politician added.
He also said that he has a concrete plan to end the war.
In addition, Trump stressed that he wants to make a $500 million agreement with President Volodymyr Zelensky on access to rare earth minerals and gas in Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees in any potential peace settlement.
He also said he had instructed his administration to organise a meeting with the Ukrainian leader. US Vice President James David Vance will meet with Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference next week from 14 to 16 February, the NYP said.
Earlier on 10 November 2024, WP quoted sources as saying that Trump allegedly made a phone call to Putin and urged him not to escalate the situation in Ukraine.
