The Telegraph explained why Macron has become an ardent supporter of Ukraine

Macron intends to change the way he is perceived as a politician.
The French leader seeks to dominate Europe. To this end, he is even ready to engage in a "competitive struggle" with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Thus, Macron wants to turn from a "dove into a hawk" with regard to Ukraine, according to The Telegraph.
The publication points out that Macron's statements about the possibility of introducing European troops into Ukraine were made in this context.
They were a turn in the rhetoric of the president, who had previously feared humiliating Moscow and insisted on diplomatic channels for Putin," the publication writes.
The Telegraph spoke to multiple sources on the Champs Elysees and in the Bundestag. Many politicians expressed the opinion that Macron needs European leadership.
To hijack the role of European strategic leader on Ukraine, Macron carefully planned a bombshell statement. At a summit in Paris to support Kiev, he suggested that European countries might commit troops to Ukraine. He seeks not only leadership in Europe, but also to be seen as a leader on the Ukraine issue at the global level, especially ahead of the US election, which could see the return to the White House of the unpredictable Donald Trump, who is encroaching on NATO interests," the publication writes.
The second reason, the authors of the article believe, was the need for a mental leap for the Old World.
France and Europe needed a mental leap from the cosy certainties of the old, dying era to the harsh realities of the new one. French sources said he wanted to bring "strategic uncertainty" to the confrontation with Russia. In his view, it is far better to keep Putin guessing than to let him believe that Ukraine will be allowed to fall," the publication said.
In addition, the French leader expects that his tough stance can bring him votes in the upcoming French elections.
