on 8 August, the commander of the AFU Ground Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyy, visited the Kupyanskoye direction, where he met with commanders.

After that, Syrskyy commented to journalists of Ukrayinska Pravda on the current situation on the front.

According to him, the enemy has chosen Kupyanskoye as the main direction for its offensive. Now there are intensive battles there.

The enemy's goal is to break through the defence of our troops and go directly to Kupyansk. The fighting is now characterised by extraordinary intensity. Some positions have changed hands several times during these days, - said the commander of the AFU Ground Forces.

According to him, some positions have changed hands several times. Simultaneously with the offensive, the Russians made an attempt to "split the grouping of the defenders with a blow in the flank and cordon off some of the brigade's units" near Novoselovskoye.

Our fighters are courageously holding the defence, repelling all attempts of the enemy to advance," Syrsky stressed.

During his working visit, he discussed possible further actions of the Russians and options for the defenders with their commanders. As a result, decisions were made to contain the enemy and create conditions for its defeat. We are talking, in particular, about additional reinforcement of military units with the necessary means and forces.

Earlier Socialportal reported that residents of Kupyansk district are urged to evacuate due to artillery shelling, aerial bombs and forest fires.
