Swiss bank freezes $19.1bn of Russian funds

Artur Zayonts
Some of these funds belong to people sanctioned by Switzerland.
This was reported by Deutsche Welle citing the Sonntagszeitung newspaper.
According to the journalists, Swiss bank Credit Suisse has blocked $19.1bn worth of Russian funds. Some of these funds belong to people on whom Switzerland imposed sanctions.
After Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine and imposed EU sanctions, Switzerland joined European restrictions and blocked Russian financial assets worth about 7.5 billion francs, as well as 15 properties, totalling about 46.1 billion francs.
But it is still an open question whether all these funds will be transferred to Ukraine to rebuild infrastructure after the war.
