Unfortunately, these numbers are constantly rising because of the war of war.

This was stated by the Chairwoman of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting Olga Gerasimyuk during the meeting of the European Platform of Regulators in Antwerp:

During the full-scale war that began on February 24, 284 frequencies were lost, 164 Ukrainian broadcasters stopped broadcasting, and Russian propaganda media started broadcasting using our frequencies.

Gerasimyuk urged European media regulators to continue the process of unification in order to further counter Russian disinformation. The National Council also created a “solidarity and support map” that clearly shows which countries have already blocked most of the available Russian channels (Russia Today and Sputnik).

More than 80 journalists got out of hellish Mariupol during March-April

According to the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, the majority are safe in the non-occupied territory of Ukraine, about 10 have moved to European countries.

Among the urgent needs reported by colleagues are the provision of equipment for work, assistance in finding employment, financial support.

Since the beginning of the active phase of the war, the NUJU has been receiving information about residents of Mariupol with whom communication has been lost. By mid-April, the database contained information about more than 30 journalists. Now the list has been reduced to 20. Of these, 4 are in Mariupol. Information about them was provided by colleagues who recently left the city.

Some media workers ended up in the occupied territory, some of them have already been filtered and delivered to Russia. These people limit contacts so as not to endanger themselves and their families due to their professional activities.

The Union of Journalists monitors their movement and conditions of stay in the aggressor country.
