Russians have started shooting Ukrainian prisoners of war more frequently

The real number of Ukrainian military personnel shot may be large from the known.
The prosecutor-general's office points out that Russians have started shooting Ukrainian prisoners of war more frequently. Thus, in October-November, the prosecutor's office opened 13 cases on the shootings of 54 Ukrainian defenders who were captured by the invaders. It is emphasised that the number of open cases for these two months is a third of all such proceedings in 2024. This was stated by Deputy head of the Department of counteraction to crimes committed in the armed conflict, the Office of the Prosecutor General Taras Semkiv on air "Suspilnogo".
As of now, the Prosecutor's Office is investigating 53 criminal proceedings related to the shooting of 177 Ukrainian prisoners of war - informed Semkiw.
According to him, the Russians shot 109 Ukrainian servicemen who were captured in 2024.
Speaking about the growing number of shootings, the deputy head of the Crime Prevention Department said that the initiative of shootings comes from Russian commanders.
The total number of those shot is increasing every month. This indicates the involvement of military commanders rather than the decision of specific ordinary soldiers," he said.
Semkiv noted that shootings of Ukrainian soldiers who have been captured are taking place at all sections of the front. He also stressed that Ukrainian investigators have information about who exactly from the invaders gave orders for the shootings and who executed them.
The UCP knows which units were involved," he added.
We will remind, on Wednesday 20 November from social networks became known about the probable shooting of the captured Ukrainian defenders, trapped in the encirclement on the territory of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

The occupants took five unarmed Ukrainian defenders prisoner. They killed one of them in a forest belt, and took four of them to the road under the sights of automatic weapons and shot them as well.
