The North American Air Defense Command announced thisannounced by the North American Air Defense Command.

On two separate occasions over the past two days, the report said that the NORAD region in Alaska detected, tracked, and identified Russian reconnaissance aircraft entering and operating as part of Alaska's air defense.

At the same time, Russian aviation did not enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.

An Air Defense Identification Zone is a self-declared area of airspace surrounding a country or territory within which it will attempt to identify foreign military aircraft.
