The Russian post mission in Vienna said the mines "do not pose a threat" to plant personnel and IAEA inspectors and it is an "acceptable practice."

The Russian Federation has admitted that it mined the perimeter of Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. This is stated in a statement by the Russian Permanent Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, published on 3 February on the social network X.

The statement came in response to the IAEA report, which said that Russia had mined the perimeter of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

The statement claims that "mines located between the outer and inner perimeter of ZNPP pose no threat to plant personnel and IAEA experts at the plant."

Moreover, the installation of mines to protect the perimeter of the NPP is an acceptable practice that does not contradict any IAEA recommendations," the statement said.

The Russian postulate also wilted that "this method can be used even in cases when the nuclear facility is not in the zone of armed conflict".
