Poland ready to help Ukraine if Slovakia cuts electricity supply

Slovak Prime Minister Fitzo, who depends on Russian gas, said Bratislava could cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine.
Poland is ready to increase electricity exports to Ukraine if Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo fulfils his threat to stop the reserve supply of electricity to Ukraine. Bloomberg quoted a Polish official, who wished to remain anonymous, as saying.
Bloomberg writes, citing a Polish official who wished to remain anonymous, that Poland is ready to intervene promptly if the Slovak government led by Robert Fitzo carries out its threat to cut off Ukraine's backup electricity supplies, he said.
The assurances from Warsaw came amid escalating disputes over gas transit through Ukraine. Fitzo threatened that Slovakia would cut off electricity supplies, which Ukraine badly needs during power outages caused by Russian shelling.
"Almost three years after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bratislava still relies on cheap gas from Gazprom, undermining European Union efforts to reduce dependence on Russian energy," the agency wrote.
We shall remind you that on 27 December, Robert Fitzo threatened that his country might stop supplying Ukraine with electricity, which is needed during a shortage in the energy system after Russian shelling. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to Fitzo's threats to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine. He said that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin had instructed Fitzo to open a "second energy front" at the expense of the interests of the people of Slovakia.
