New explosions reported near Engels airfield

Local sub-publics, which were then picked up by the Russian media, reported that explosions were heard near the airfield today, 26 December. And a video showing a strong flash was even posted. We shall remind you that long-range strategic aviation is based in Engels, bombarding Ukraine from a long distance with cruise missiles.

The popular Telegram channel Baza posted a video where a siren can also be heard. It has not been possible to confirm the authenticity of the video yet. Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin, whose city of Engels is under his jurisdiction, posted a post on his Telegram channel, which reads in part:

Information about the incident at the military facility is being verified by law enforcement agencies.

Russia's defence ministry says air defence assets shot down a Ukrainian drone as it approached a military airfield in Engels, Russian news agencies have reported. The statement also said that no aircraft were harmed when the wreckage fell.

The Russian defence ministry statement has a few more important details. It turns out that "as a result of the drone wreckage falling, three Russian technical personnel who were at the airfield were fatally wounded".

Subsequently, Russian Telegram channels and media reported that during the strike on the Engels-2 airfield, the base's control center was hit. According to preliminary information from Russian media, the UAV fired two missiles, one of which was shot down by the air defense system, while the other hit the target.

The Ukrainian side has not yet confirmed its involvement in the incident.

We shall remind you that the Engels airfield was already subjected to a Ukrainian attack on 5 December. The Russian Defence Ministry said then that the strike was carried out with the help of UAVs.
