After hostilities, explosive objects often remain on the ground.

The Auto24 publication found out from experts which sections of the road remain dangerous after the liberation of the territories from the invaders. As noted by experts, there may still be mines in the ground, wire and grenades fixed between trees, individual objects mined to defeat someone who tries to move them.

Some dangerous ammunition can be left unintentionally by the military - thrown in broken equipment, lost during the battle, hidden from the enemy during the retreat, or simply not exploded when used for its intended purpose, the experts noted.

They warned that drivers should be aware of the danger and avoid places where dangerous objects could be installed.

In particular, experts advise avoiding:

  • Dirt roads. The villages in the places of recent battles were almost certainly mined. Therefore, do not turn off the asphalt onto field roads if they do not have demining marks from sappers.
  • Forest belts, including those located along the main roads. Very often, battles took place on the roads and next to them, and then the forest belts served as a military shelter and ways for covert movement. Accordingly, units often mined these routes so that the enemy would not take them by surprise.
  • Places of fighting. A sign of danger to you should be trenches, earthworks, anti-tank hedgehogs, disturbed turf, damaged trees and other vegetation.
  • Separately, we emphasize the danger of excursions to damaged military equipment - trucks, tanks, armored vehicles. Black spots of soot and oil on the ground are another characteristic marker of danger: this is the place where the combat vehicle burned down, from which, during the explosion, unexploded ordnance could fly in all directions.
  • Roadsides and ditches where there were checkpoints. Where military units have been standing for more or less a long time, there may be both mined paths and objects, as well as simply lost explosive ordnance.
  • Sites where the soldiers were stationed. Glades, in particular the edges of forests and forest belts, were often the place where artillery firing positions were deployed, where tanks and armored vehicles were refueled and loaded with ammunition. Signs of this are trampled, torn soil, packing boxes of ammunition, and the remains of other military equipment.
  • Items on the ground. All sorts of things, including items of a completely peaceful purpose, can be mined by the enemy during the retreat. Don't touch them at all.

If you find ammunition and similar suspicious items, call rescuers, and mark the area where it was seen with something bright, experts advise.

In Ukraine, more than 30 million hectares of land have been mined, mine clearance is currently being carried out in the Kyiv, Sumy, Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions.
