Irish Army Ranger Robert Deegan was killed in the fighting for Ukraine

A former member of the elite Army Rangers wing of the Armed Forces of Ireland, Robert Deegan, 29, from Newbridge in County Co Kielder, has died in Ukraine fighting Russian invaders.
This is reported by The Irish Times.
Robert Deegan was fatally wounded on Thursday 19 September, and on Sunday it became known that the military officer was killed in action. At the moment it is unknown whether the remains of the deceased could be found.
It is noted that Robert Deegan had no ties to Ukraine prior to Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, but he was convinced that the Russians must be defeated.
In October 2022, Deegan was injured when his car was hit by an improvised explosive device. At that time, the military man was seriously injured and lost an eye. After treatment and rehabilitation in Ireland, he decided to return to Ukraine and continued to participate in combat operations. In Ukraine, he served in the Stugna special unit, a special forces unit involved in complex and dangerous missions.
It is believed that he was fatally wounded when he was covering the retreat of his group from the combat area.
