The blankets were originally planned to be sold at auction.

Germany will send 36,400 wool blankets to Ukraine as winter aid, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper has reported.

The newspaper said that 36,400 wool blankets from the Bundeswehr's stocks would be sent to Ukraine as winter aid. Initially they were planned to be sold at an auction, but it was decided that they would be useful in the liberated territories during military operations:

A total of 36,400 second-hand mixed wool blankets, measuring two metres by two metres and yellow and olive in colour, packed in boxes, were ready for sale

A number of politicians criticized the intention and pointed out that Ukraine needed them more now. After this, Finance Minister Christian Lindner stopped the sale. The minister offered the blankets to the Ukrainian government, which confirmed the urgent need.

The blankets are being prepared for shipment to Ukraine

Currently, German aid to Ukraine, in addition to arms and ammunition systems, includes 116,000 jackets for cold protection, 80,000 trousers for cold protection and 240,000 winter hats, as well as 15 pallets of clothing
