The US did not include funding for the USAI programme for Ukraine in the 2027 budget

The US draft budget for 2027 does not include funding for the USAI military assistance programme for Ukraine. Washington expects European allies to shoulder the main financial burden.
The draft US budget for 2027 does not include funding for the USAI military assistance programme for Ukraine, Pentagon representatives confirmed during a Senate hearing, which signalled a possible revision of Washington's approach to supporting Kiev. This was reported by the C-SPAN TV channel, which broadcast the hearings in the US Senate Committee on Financing the Armed Forces.
As it sounded at the meeting of the Committee on Armed Forces, previously approved by Congress funds - about $ 800 million - continue to be distributed, but there are no new allocations for 2027 in the document. Acting Pentagon finance chief Jules Hurst bluntly stated: there is no funding for the initiative in the new budget.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth emphasised that the US expects more financial involvement from European allies. According to him, it is Europe that should take the main burden in supporting Ukraine, given the scale of its economy.
The Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative programme previously allowed the USA to buy weapons and equipment for the AFU directly from manufacturers. Now, against the backdrop of policy changes that began under current U.S. President Donald Trump, the focus is shifting to a model in which arms deliveries are financed by NATO allies.
The lack of USAI funding in the 2027 budget could affect long-term arms supplies, including critical air defence systems, on which Ukraine remains heavily dependent amid the ongoing war.
