The EU ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, has commented on the terms of Ukraine's possible accession to the European Union. According to her, it is premature to talk about a specific date, including 2027, because everything depends on the reforms.

The issue of Ukraine's possible accession to the European Union by 2027 is still under discussion, but such a date has not been officially approved. This was stated by EU ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova in an interview with UNIAN.

According to her, the 2027 date was not fixed by the EU institutions and appeared only within the framework of political discussions and separate negotiation formats. Brussels emphasises that it is premature to talk about specific dates of accession until Ukraine completes the necessary reforms.

Maternova noted that the EU expects the European integration process to be accelerated, but it remains strictly dependent on the progress of reforms in the country.

She also emphasised that the possible establishment of peace in Ukraine may give an additional impetus to the negotiations, but does not replace the need to continue the reforms. According to her, reforms are important first and foremost for Ukraine itself to ensure stability and development after the end of the war.

Earlier, the EU has already said that Ukraine's accession in 2027 is impossible, but the country remains a key partner of the bloc in security, innovation and economy.

We shall remind you that the Ukrainian government has set an ambitious goal - to sign the EU accession treaty as early as 2027.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeatedly said that it was necessary to determine a specific date of accession. At the same time, he noted that a clear membership calendar would guarantee Russia's strategic defeat and security for the whole of Europe.
