On the night of Saturday, 17 February, the AFU commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyy said that the AFU had withdrawn from Avdeevka in Donetsk Region.

US President Joe Biden has accused US congressmen of forcing Ukrainians to leave Avdiyivka in Donetsk Region under the enemy's onslaught in order to move to more favourable positions for defence. This is the subject of a White House statement .

The Ukrainian military was forced to withdraw from Avdiivka this morning after Ukrainian soldiers were forced to ration ammunition due to dwindling supplies as a result of congressional inaction, resulting in Russia's first notable successes in months," Biden said.

President Biden noted the need for Congress to urgently pass a bill for additional national security funding to replenish Ukrainian forces.

As CNN points out, Biden also admitted that the lack of shells and other military equipment could result in the Ukrainian Armed Forces having to abandon other population centres. He emphasised that it was "unethical" that the US was not providing more assistance to the Ukrainians after they had "fought so bravely and heroically".

Now they are running out of ammunition and we are leaving. I find that absurd. I find it unethical. I think it goes against everything we are as a country," Biden said.

Also, the US president said that it was necessary to find a way to impose the costs of defence and reconstruction of Ukraine on the Russian government.

We would like to point out that Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said that Russian troops had established "full control" over Avdiyivka in Donetsk Region as Ukrainian forces probably withdrew from Avdiyivka on 17 February.
