Germany believes that there is every reason to bring Russian war criminals to justice.

The German authorities have collected more than 500 evidence of Russian war crimes on the territory of Ukraine and interviewed more than 160 witnesses. This is reported by DW.

At the same time, Berlin admits that there may be much more cases of atrocities committed by Russian war criminals. They urge victims of violence by Russians, as well as eyewitnesses to contact the police, so that its experts recorded evidence of war crimes of the Russian Federation.

German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann explained that the issuance of an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin by the International Criminal Court (ICC) means Germany needs to continue gathering evidence.

Buschmann emphasised that any photo or video, such as on a smartphone, can help the investigation.

Whoever deletes such materials only helps Russian war criminals," the German official added.

It is noted that a conference on international law is scheduled for next week at the German Justice Ministry, where, among other things, the growing number of Russian drone strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine will be discussed.

If a drone strikes a residential building, this is also a war crime," he stressed.

Buschmann said that data collection will continue and Berlin will strengthen co-operation in this area with Kiev and Warsaw, where many Ukrainians have found reassurance.

He also expressed confidence that Putin can and will be held accountable for war crimes, as it was he who gave commands to kill people and seize other people's territories.
