Berbock explained the photo of her running away from Scholz

Some media speculated that in this way Berbock protested to Scholz over blocking aid to Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock commented on a photo in which Chancellor Olaf Scholz reaches out to her with his hand and she allegedly runs away from him. The photo drew the attention of the media. In particular, the publication Bild suggested that Berbock might have refused to be photographed with Scholz because of his blocking a 3 billion euro aid package to Ukraine.
At the same time, a little later Annalena Berbock herself on the air of TV channel ZDF denied the assumption that she deliberately avoided a handshake with the Chancellor. According to her, the photo simply failed to capture the moment when she did not notice Scholz's hand.
It's just a snapshot. In the photo, it looks like I'm not giving my hand, even though I didn't even notice what was going on behind my back. Like any person, I have no eyes on the back of my head," explained the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
We will note, earlier Scholz said that he would not agree to the aid package to Ukraine in 3 billion euros, which supports Berbock and other German leaders, if it is not paid for by new borrowing. Berbock believes Germany is losing the trust of its allies in this way. Berbock also sharply criticises previous German governments for, in her view, failing to heed warnings about the Kremlin's aggressive intentions.
